A Remarkable Stone

Turquoise, in particular, has been a central design element in traditional Southwest Indian jewelry-making for centuries. That heritage has been carried on in both our traditional and contemporary American Indian turquoise rings, as well as our other forms of jewelry. Turquoise is seen as a symbol of wealth, and is believed in many indigenous cultures to bestow life and good fortune for those who wear it. This is a belief shared by many human cultures across thousands of years, and turquoise is known to be one of the oldest gemstones documented in human history.

The reason turquoise is so important to traditional Southwestern jewelry-making is that the American Southwest is one of the few regions in the world where turquoise occurs. It takes an incredibly fortuitous and synchronized sequence of geologic events to create turquoise veins. Turquoise forms when groundwater percolates through rock containing aluminum and copper, and so the stone is often found within copper deposits. Turquoise tends to be found in arid regions, such as the deserts of the Southwest.

Many of our pieces are made with sterling silver, which has been used extensively in traditional Native American jewelry for centuries. Other materials found in our rings include gold and beloved gemstones such as jet, opal, coral, lapis lazuli, spiny oyster shell, sugilite, and gaspeite. Our design variety means customers with widely varying aesthetic tastes can all find something to love in our jewelry selection.

Rare and Authentic

Because many of the once-reliable turquoise mines have dried up, there are many imitations and less-than-authentic materials on the turquoise market. However, our American Indian turquoise rings are completely authentic and we only use natural materials legitimately sourced from local tribes, and our materials are never imported. Each of our jewelry pieces comes with a certificate of authenticity.
